Fine dining, Venezuelan fare, coffee and sweet treats and sandwiches among the newcomers
Summer is supposed to be the slow season, right? Well, tell that to the owners of these new places opening their doors now or soon.
Clusters & Hops opens with a limited menu
The adventurous fine dining restaurant, a longtime favorite on North Monroe Street, is slowly opening its doors at its new location at 1866 Thomasville Rd. Clusters & Hops has opened its retail shop and owner Kent Steels is offering a limited menu from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday nights. I loved the former location so looking forward to their new home! Contact 850-222-2669. The place looks great! Photo above, credit Clusters & Hops

Venezuelan street fare on Mahan
A new Venezuelan restaurant called Chatarras has opened at 3348 Mahan Dr.
Here’s an excerpt from a story by Kyla A Sanford in the Tallahassee Democrat:
“One man in Tallahassee is paving the way for his two nieces and mother in Venezuela to join him in the U.S. by turning to his family’s culinary skills and opening a restaurant in Tallahassee.
Jesus Lamas, 48, said he has one goal in mind for opening Chatarras in eastern Leon County: to create ‘a stable financial life for my family.’ “
Chatarras is serving casual fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Argonaut brings coffee, sweets to Goodwood cafe
Welcome to the coffee shop, Argonaut Coffee, in this sweet spot at Goodwood Museum & Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Rd.
You may have sampled some of their coffee at Midtown Reader. If you’ve ever been to TOC Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic you probably grabbed a cup while waiting for your appointment. Great to see they’re adding homemade baked goods at their new Goodwood site.
Looking forward to seeing a new business in this location. It was sad to see Soulful by Chef Shac close though the talented chef is still doing catering — Chef Shac — and appearing at many events.
Argonaut is having a soft opening from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 7 to 14 with its grand opening on July 29, the weekend of Harry Potter’s birthday.

A new revolution in the sandwich world
This looks very cool. Sliders – A Sandwich Revolution is a restaurant from Drew McLeod, co-owner of Savour with wife Kim, and his son Gabriel. Sliders, opening on July 17, is located in the former space of Gaines Street Pies at 1122 Thomasville Rd.
The decor is called “Old World Bougie.” It’s pretty posh for a store front, with chandeliers, brick walls and colonial accents. But don’t expect fancy food, especially with items like the Mutt & Jeff slaw dog, a Tallahassee original.
Other items include the Alexander Hamilton with Jamaican jerk chicken; the John Hancock with two brisket sliders; the Ben Franklin with sliced rib-eye; and the Betsy Ross vegetarian sandwich.
All the best to these restaurateurs!
