Smorgasbord cafe a new spot for homey fare

by Tallahassee Table
The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, eat-in service and catering.

In a recent Tallahassee Table Facebook post about restaurant closures, many readers said they had never heard of most of the places that had closed. A lot of local spots are not in the spotlight. So we will regularly be featuring a restaurant that may not be on your radar. It’s not a review (those will come later) but an introduction to a new face and taste.

Be sure to check out the new, locally owned restaurant, Smorgasbord Catering Co. in the former home of Jeri’s Midtown Cafe at 1123 Thomasville Rd.

Don’t let the name, Smorgasbord Catering, fool you. The restaurant, owned by Rick Hollar and I.B. Mansaray is also an eat-in cafe. After a soft opening, hours are now Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It’s easy to pig out at Smorgasbord. Breakfast dishes include a frittata, pancakes with lemon curd and blueberries, stuffed French toast, breakfast sandwiches, hashbrown casserole, biscuits and gravy, Croque Monsieur or Madame and a grit-crusted quiche.

The menu will also feature sandwiches such as a Cuban sandwich, chicken salad and a delicious-sounding grilled peach, prosciutto and Brie sandwich on sourdough as well as shrimp and grits. And there will be a few brunch-only weekend specials. Smorgasbord will offer pre-made dishes and family meals for takeout or delivery.

We’d love to hear your feedback when you try Smorgasbord. Here’s a link to the menu: https://smorgasbordcatering.com/midtown-menu/
