What’s new this holiday season and how you can help
For starters, one of Tallahassee’s favorite catering services, a prime choice for the holidays, has a new owner.
Black Fig has been providing catering and gourmet meals to go for more than a decade, with Mark Suber at the helm. There’s been a big change this year, but no need to fret. William Lawson, chef and owner of Mimi’s Table Tallahassee, one of our favorites, has acquired Black Fig.
Fans will be happy to hear that William is keeping the shop’s recipes and crowd favorites while adding some of Mimi’s highlights, such as lasagna, braised short ribs, salmon croquettes, made-from-scratch pasta, rosemary focaccia bread and several desserts.

The retail space, at 1400 Village Square Blvd., has been refreshed to expand grab-n-go items, such as party dips, cheeses, salads, soups, house-made dressings, desserts and a selection of heat-and-serve entrees, sides, casseroles and other dishes.
“Black Fig will continue to provide premium full service catering as well as convenient drop-off and curbside pickup,” William said, noting he’ll be featuring local products from such sources as Sweet Grass Dairy, Orchard Pond Organics, sausage from Bradley’s Country Store and Southern Craft Creamery.

The shop is offering a full lineup of Thanksgiving fare. Options include a whole roasted turkey or turkey breast, sides and desserts. WHAT’S OPEN FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Cooking a Thanksgiving feast is a time-honored tradition, bringing together friends and family. But it’s also a lot of work. Maybe this is the year you want a break.
If so, several restaurants are opening their doors for Thanksgiving. You can easily find traditional turkey platters with all the fixins’ or go for something different, like Indian, French or Peruvian fare.
Another option: Preorder the whole shebang. The food is prepared and all you have to do is warm it up – that should cut down on the clean up as well. If you’re having a potluck affair, fill in gaps with sides or pies, even a turkey. It’s a chance to spice up your holiday table with something new.
Whatever you do, order or make a reservation as early as possible. Things can change so be sure to confirm your reservation (and restaurant hours). And have a wonderful holiday!
